The Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has successfully foiled a major terrorist plot following a timely and intelligence-based operation conducted by CTD Dera Ismail Khan Region. Acting on verified information provided by sensitive agencies, CTD’s Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) teams carried out a targeted raid in Sheikh Yousaf Khema Basti, Dera Ismail Khan, resulting in the arrest of a suspected female suicide bomber.

This successful operation prevented a potentially catastrophic act of terrorism and underscores the continued vigilance and operational readiness of CTD Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in safeguarding public safety across the province.

According to operational sources, CTD Dera Ismail Khan received credible intelligence indicating the presence of a young female suicide bomber in Sheikh Yousaf Khema Basti. Acting swiftly on this information, CTD SWAT teams conducted a precise and coordinated raid at the identified location.

During the operation, a young woman was apprehended at the site. Upon preliminary questioning, the suspect identified herself as “Ms. (Z),” a resident of Waziristan. During initial interrogation, she reportedly disclosed that she had been under the training and supervision of a militant commander, Shah Wali alias Tariq Kochi (deceased), and had remained closely associated with him.

The suspect further confessed to being affiliated with a proscribed organization and admitted that she had recently expressed willingness to carry out a suicide attack. According to her statement, the suicide jacket and target for the intended attack were to be provided by another militant commander identified as Asim.

During the search of the tent premises, CTD personnel recovered a command-style bag containing:

  • A .30 bore pistol along with ammunition

  • Two mobile phones containing evidence of communication with a banned organization

  • A tablet device

  • A power bank

  • A perfume reportedly intended to mask the smell of explosives

  • Additional materials believed to be linked to preparations for a suicide attack

Forensic examination of the recovered mobile phones revealed contact and communication with members of a proscribed militant outfit, along with indications of consent and preparation for a suicide mission.

The suspect has been formally arrested and shifted to a secure facility for further investigation. Law enforcement authorities are continuing to expand the scope of inquiry to identify facilitators, handlers, and any broader network linked to the foiled plot.

The Inspector General of Police, Zulfiqar Hameed, commended the CTD team for their professionalism, swift response, and operational excellence. In recognition of their successful action and dedication, he announced a cash reward for the participating officers.

CTD officials reaffirmed that operations against terrorist elements and anti-state actors will continue without discrimination and with unwavering resolve. The department remains fully committed to the Government’s zero-tolerance policy against terrorism and extremism.

The Counter Terrorism Department Khyber Pakhtunkhwa continues to work proactively across the province to dismantle terrorist networks, neutralize threats, and thwart attempts to destabilize peace and security.
