The Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) on Friday claimed to have thwarted a major terror plot in Bahawalnagar by arresting two suspects associated with a banned outfit and allegedly in contact with India’s intelligence agency, RAW.
According to a CTD spokesperson, the arrests were made during a timely intelligence-based operation as the suspects were planning a large-scale explosion in the area. Officials said modern weapons, explosives and communication devices were recovered from their possession, preventing what could have been a devastating attack.
Investigations revealed that the accused maintained links with RAW handlers and had received funding from across the border to carry out subversive activities in Pakistan. “The nefarious designs of the country’s enemies will not be allowed to succeed,” the CTD spokesperson said.
Following the operation, a case was registered against the suspects under the Explosives Act and Section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act (ATA). The seized arms and explosives were sent to a forensic laboratory for analysis.
CTD officials maintained that the foiled plot underscores continued external attempts to destabilise Pakistan, adding that law enforcement agencies remain vigilant to counter such threats and ensure public safety.
