The Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) on Thursday foiled a major assault on its office in Sui, Balochistan, killing two members of Fitna-al-Hindustan and arresting three others alive after an intense exchange of fire. According to CTD officials, armed assailants linked with the banned Baloch Republican Army (BRA), referred to by security authorities as Fitna-al-Hindustan, attempted to storm the department’s office in Sui. Security personnel engaged the attackers in a fierce gun battle, neutralising two on the spot and overpowering three others.
A CTD official said the timely action prevented a large-scale tragedy, as the attackers had planned to inflict heavy casualties through their assault. “The foiling of this attack is a major success against Fitna-al-Hindustan, which continues to target state institutions at the behest of hostile elements,” the official added.
During the encounter, one CTD personnel sustained injuries and was shifted to hospital, where he was reported to be in stable condition. The three captured assailants were shifted to an undisclosed location for interrogation, with officials stating that their arrests could lead to significant breakthroughs in ongoing counter-terrorism operations.
Security forces immediately cordoned off the area following the incident, conducting a search operation to rule out the presence of additional attackers or planted explosives. The swift and coordinated response, officials noted, underscored the preparedness of the CTD in the face of persistent threats.
The BRA, long blamed for targeting law enforcement agencies, critical installations, and infrastructure in Balochistan, has been accused by security authorities of working in collusion with external handlers. Thursday’s failed attack in Sui marks yet another setback for Fitna-al-Hindustan in its bid to destabilise the province. Authorities said further details regarding the network of the arrested operatives and their intended plans would be shared after initial investigations.
