A mortar shell, believed by local residents to be a mini-missile fired from across the Pakistan-Afghanistan border, struck a house in the Zakha Khel area of Landi Kotal in Khyber district, damaging the structure but causing no casualties, local sources said on Thursday.

According to residents, the projectile landed late Wednesday night in a room of the house belonging to a local resident, identified as Zulfiqar Afridi, in the border village. The impact caused significant damage to the building.

No injuries were reported as family members were not present in the room at the time of the incident.

Local residents said sporadic cross-border shelling had been reported in several frontier settlements of Landi Kotal in recent days, heightening fear among the civilian population living near the Pakistan-Afghanistan border.

They added that similar incidents had occurred earlier as well, including one reported about two days ago in which civilians, including children, were seriously injured after shells landed in residential areas.

Residents said the repeated firing has forced families to adopt precautionary measures and remain alert during the night, fearing further attacks from across the border.

There has been no official confirmation or detailed statement from authorities regarding the latest incident so far. However, sources said security precautions were being taken in sensitive border localities amid the tense situation.
