Criticism Mounts Against Afghan Government Over Mishandling of Deported Refugees

A public gathering in Jalalabad strongly criticized the Afghan government for its inadequate response to the humanitarian crisis caused by Pakistan’s forced deportation of Afghan refugees.

Tribal elders, civil society representatives, and local leaders accused Kabul of lacking a clear plan and failing to provide sufficient shelter, food, and reintegration support for the returning families.

Speakers emphasized that the Afghan government’s sluggish and symbolic measures, such as ministerial visits to Torkham, were insufficient.

They called on authorities to take immediate, practical steps—such as land distribution and emergency aid—to prevent further suffering of displaced Afghans, many of whom face dire conditions upon return.

The gathering urged the international community to step in, warning that the Afghan state’s failure to act effectively could deepen the crisis and erode public trust.
