A police constable was martyred in a deadly ambush by Khawarij while en route to his duty post in the rugged mountainous region of Koh-e-Maidan in Takht-e-Nasrati tehsil of Karak district. According to preliminary information, Constable Saeed Khattak, a resident of Chappi Banda, was posted at the recently established Koh-e-Maidan police checkpoint. He was travelling on foot through the mountainous terrain when he came under sudden fire from Khawarij operatives, resulting in his martyrdom on the spot.
Officials said the area where the attack took place had only recently been cleared of Khawarij elements through a security operation. A permanent police checkpoint was established there to consolidate peace and ensure state writ. However, Thursday’s deadly assault has once again highlighted the lingering threat posed by these anti-state elements in remote regions.
Koh-e-Maidan is a remote and rugged part of Karak, where law enforcement officials often endure a five-hour trek through harsh mountainous routes to reach their duty stations. Constable Saeed Khattak was reportedly on such a journey when he fell victim to the cowardly attack.
Police officials and local elders have strongly condemned the incident, vowing that the sacrifice of the martyred constable will not go in vain. Security forces have launched a search operation in the area to trace and eliminate the perpetrators.
