“Clear Our Land of Khawarij”: North Waziristan Residents Ready to Leave Homes as Tensions Escalate

Residents of Shewa tehsil in North Waziristan have urged security forces to launch a decisive operation against Khawarij elements in the area, while announcing their willingness to temporarily relocate to facilitate clearance efforts and restore lasting peace.

According to local sources, the increasing presence and activities of Khawarij in Shewa have raised serious security concerns among residents, prompting calls for immediate and coordinated action. Community members emphasized that the growing threat posed by these elements requires urgent intervention to safeguard lives and property.

Residents reported that Khawarij had earlier destroyed a key bridge in the area in an apparent attempt to disrupt the movement of security forces. More recently, they have allegedly been operating from nearby mountainous regions, launching attacks and attempting to intimidate and subdue the local population.

In response to the deteriorating security situation, tribal elders from the Qabil Khel tribe, along with other community leaders, convened a jirga with security officials. During the meeting, participants reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining peace and pledged full cooperation with security forces in efforts to eliminate militant threats from the region.

Local elders and displaced residents have formally appealed to authorities to conduct targeted operations in vacated villages to clear the area of Khawarij presence. They stressed that such measures are essential to ensure the safe return of residents and the restoration of normalcy.

Community representatives reiterated their collective resolve to stand united against elements seeking to destabilize the region. “We will not tolerate any activities that undermine peace in our area,” a tribal elder stated, emphasizing the community’s determination to resist all forms of militancy.

The situation in Shewa reflects broader security challenges in parts of North Waziristan, where local cooperation with authorities remains critical in addressing threats and ensuring long-term stability. Observers note that the proactive stance taken by residents offering voluntary displacement to enable security operations underscores both the severity of the threat and the community’s commitment to peace.

Authorities have yet to issue an official statement regarding the proposed operation; however, the developments highlight the urgency of coordinated action to address emerging security risks in the region.
