Clashes broke out early Thursday morning between Pakistani security forces and Afghan Taliban fighters near Bahram-Chah, along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border in Balochistan’s Chagai district. The confrontation, reportedly triggered by the construction of new Afghan border posts, led to an intense exchange of fire lasting nearly two hours before subsiding.
According to local officials, the skirmish erupted in the Baramcha region a volatile zone adjacent to Pakistan’s Balochistan province and Afghanistan’s Helmand province when Afghan Taliban forces attempted to erect new installations near the zero line. Pakistani forces responded, leading to heavy gunfire exchanged between both sides.
“The firing has now stopped, but the situation remains tense,” said a local administration official, confirming that both sides have reinforced their positions along the frontier. In the aftermath of the confrontation, the border crossing has been sealed to all movement.
No casualties have yet been officially confirmed. However, security sources suggest that monitoring is ongoing and that forces on both sides remain on high alert as tensions persist in the area.
This is the latest in a series of flare ups along the Pak-Afghan border, where disputes over border demarcation and post construction have repeatedly sparked confrontations. Authorities on both sides have yet to issue formal statements regarding today’s incident.
