A tense security situation unfolded in Lakki Marwat as police, in coordination with the local police peace committee, launched an operation against terrorists in the jurisdiction of Sadar Police Station, leading to an armed clash in the Sheikh Khaila area.
According to police officials, the encounter began during a targeted operation aimed at flushing out terrorist elements believed to be operating in the area. As security forces advanced, they came under fire, triggering a fierce exchange of gunfire between the terrorists and the police-backed peace committee.
During the clash, one police officer sustained serious injuries. He was initially shifted to City Hospital Lakki Marwat for emergency treatment and was later referred to Bannu in critical condition, hospital sources confirmed.
Police stated that the situation remains fluid, with the exchange of fire still ongoing at the time of reporting. In response, a heavy contingent of police forces has been dispatched to the scene to reinforce the operation and prevent the terrorists from escaping.
Security officials emphasized that all necessary measures are being taken to neutralize the threat and ensure the safety of local residents. The area has been cordoned off as a precautionary step, while further updates are expected as the operation progresses.
Authorities reiterated their resolve to continue action against terrorist elements and praised the role of the police peace committee for standing alongside law enforcement in maintaining security and stability in the region.
