China Reaffirms Support for Pakistan in Fight Against Terrorism: President Xi

Chinese President Xi Jinping has reaffirmed China’s support for Pakistan in its fight against terrorism, while expressing hope that Islamabad will ensure the security of Chinese personnel, projects, and institutions operating in the country.

President Xi made these remarks during a meeting with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, held on the sidelines of regional engagements on Tuesday. Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar and Chief of Army Staff General Syed Asim Munir were also present at the meeting, where both sides reviewed the regional situation and discussed matters of bilateral cooperation.

“China firmly supports Pakistan in its efforts against terrorism,” President Xi said, emphasizing that effective measures must be taken to safeguard Chinese citizens and investments, particularly those linked to the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) and the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, while lauding President Xi’s leadership, described Pakistan and China as “iron brothers” who have stood by each other in every test of time. He said the Belt and Road Initiative and the CPEC projects were a testament to President Xi’s exemplary vision and leadership. “The people of Pakistan deeply cherish their friendship with China,” he added.

The Prime Minister is also scheduled to hold separate meetings with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Tajik President Emomali Rahmon during his ongoing engagements.
