Children Killed in Blast After Picking Up Militants’ Abandoned RPG in Lakki Marwat

A tragic explosion in Lakki Marwat claimed the lives of five children and injured over 20 others after an RPG round, believed to be left behind by militants, detonated while children unknowingly played with it at home. The incident occurred after the children were playing in the Sheikh Badin mountain range an area historically used by Khawarij militants as a hideout. While exploring the terrain, the children came across what appeared to be an unexploded rocket-propelled grenade and mistook it for a toy. The round was brought home, where it exploded, resulting in catastrophic casualties.

Security officials have confirmed the presence of multiple eyewitnesses who support the sequence of events. The area, like many former militant strongholds, remains littered with remnants of war a deadly risk for local populations, especially children.

Attempts by PTM, PTI, and affiliated voices to politicize the tragedy and misrepresent its context have been termed deeply irresponsible. “At a time when innocent children have lost their lives, playing politics is not only insensitive it is dangerous,” a senior official stated.

He further added, “If blame is to be placed, it lies with the Khawarij and their enablers including the KP government’s political-criminal nexus that seeks to weaken civil and law enforcement institutions, obstruct action against terrorists, and paralyze anti-militancy operations led by the Army.”

Authorities have reiterated the urgent need for demining operations and public awareness in former conflict zones. Local law enforcement and civil administration have been directed to increase vigilance in vulnerable areas and ensure such deadly remnants are swiftly located and neutralized.
