Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Asim Munir has stressed the need for all-round preparedness and close coordination among all elements of national power, warning that hostile forces are increasingly relying on indirect and ambiguous tactics instead of open confrontation.

According to a statement issued by the military’s media wing, the field marshal visited the National Defence University in Islamabad, where he was briefed by panels of civil and military participants of the National Security and War Course on academic analyses of emerging national security challenges and the requirements to counter them.

Addressing the participants, Field Marshal Asim Munir highlighted the rapidly evolving global, regional, and internal security landscape, saying Pakistan faces a wide range of persistent challenges. These challenges, he noted, span conventional and non-conventional domains, including intelligence, cyber, information warfare, military, economic, and other sectors.

He said effectively responding to these threats requires comprehensive preparedness and seamless coordination among all elements of national power. He cautioned that adversaries are increasingly exploiting internal vulnerabilities through proxies and other indirect means rather than engaging in direct military confrontation.

The field marshal underscored the importance of grooming future leaders capable of timely identification, anticipation, and effective management of such multi-dimensional threats. He said clarity in decision-making, intellectual strength, and mental resilience are essential qualities for effective leadership in today’s contested security environment.

Praising the role of the National Defence University in developing strategic thinkers, he said the institution has the capacity to translate rigorous professional training and academic insight into effective policymaking and tangible outcomes. He added that professional military education remains central to strengthening institutional capacity, promoting indigenous capabilities, and ensuring long-term national stability.

Commending the depth of analysis presented by the course participants, Field Marshal Asim Munir urged them to remain vigilant and steadfast, while upholding the values of integrity, discipline, and selfless service.

Earlier, on his arrival at the university, the chief of defence forces was warmly received by the president of the National Defence University.
