Seven Indian-sponsored terrorists belonging to the banned outfit Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), also known as Fitna al-Khwarij, were killed during an intelligence-based operation (IBO) conducted by security forces in the Dogar area of Kurram District today (Wednesday).
According to security sources, the operation was launched after reports of militant presence in the region. During an intense exchange of fire, troops effectively engaged the terrorists, killing seven of them on the spot.
However, the fierce gun battle also resulted in the martyrdom of Captain Noman Saleem, a 24-year-old medical officer from Mianwali, who, in addition to providing medical support, fought bravely alongside his men until embracing Shahadat.
Five other soldiers also laid down their lives in the line of duty:
Havildar Amjad Ali (39), resident of District Swabi
Naik Waqas Ahmad (36), resident of District Rawalpindi
Sepoy Aijaz Ali (23), resident of District Shikarpur
Sepoy Muhammad Waleed (23), resident of District Jhelum
Sepoy Muhammad Shahbaz (32), resident of District Khairpur
Security forces have launched a sanitization operation in the surrounding area to eliminate any remaining militants.
The operation is part of Pakistan’s ongoing counterterrorism drive under Operation Azm-e-Istehkam, approved by the Federal Apex Committee on the National Action Plan. Officials reaffirmed that the campaign will continue at full pace to root out foreign-sponsored terrorism and restore lasting peace across the country.
