Inspector General Frontier Corps (IGFC) South, Major General Bilal Sarfaraz, on Friday announced that the border in Chagai district had been temporarily closed following credible evidence that explosives were being smuggled under the guise of oil consignments. He said the decision was taken to prevent any security breach and ensure peace along the sensitive frontier region.
During his visit to Dalbandin, Major General Sarfaraz met with tribal elders, local dignitaries, district administration, and police officials to review the security and development situation in the area. He said peace in Chagai was a shared responsibility of the government, security forces, and tribal leadership.
Paying rich tribute to Captain Waqar Kakar Shaheed, the IGFC described him as a “brave and patriotic Baloch officer” who embraced martyrdom in a cowardly attack carried out by khawarij (terrorists). He reaffirmed the Frontier Corps’ commitment to conducting joint targeted operations with other law enforcement agencies to eliminate subversive elements and their facilitators.
Major General Sarfaraz disclosed that irrefutable evidence confirmed the transportation of explosive materials through certain oil border crossings, prompting their temporary suspension. “The crossings have been closed as a precautionary measure and will reopen after strengthened security checks,” he said, adding that the Raje border crossing was being prioritised for reopening within the current month after enhanced screening arrangements.
He said modern scanners were being installed to regulate legitimate trade while preventing any misuse of the border for unlawful activities. “All officially notified trade and transit routes remain open and fully operational,” he clarified.
Touching on development projects, the IGFC South said that Rs411 million worth of schemes had been approved for Chagai district under the Balochistan Special Development Initiative, with funds released directly to the district administration for immediate execution.
He encouraged unskilled individuals to benefit from skill development centres and learn technical trades to secure dignified employment opportunities. “Economic empowerment and education are the foundations of lasting peace,” he said. Major General Bilal Sarfaraz reaffirmed that the Frontier Corps South remains committed to ensuring security, fostering development, and protecting the people and resources of Balochistan.
