A bomb blast outside the residence of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) MPA Dr Hameedur Rehman in Khar, Bajaur, late Wednesday night sent shockwaves through the region, as law enforcement agencies launched a high-level investigation into what appears to be a targeted act of political violence.
According to police officials, the improvised explosive device detonated near the main gate of the MPA’s house. While no casualties were reported, the explosion caused structural damage to the entrance. “The main gate was partially destroyed, but fortunately no one inside the residence was harmed,” a senior police officer said.
In response, security forces immediately cordoned off the area and began a search operation. Bomb disposal and forensic teams collected evidence from the scene, while intelligence officials were engaged to trace those responsible for the attack.
Dr Hameedur Rehman, an elected member of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly from Bajaur, was reportedly present in the district at the time, though it remains unconfirmed whether he was at home during the explosion. No group has so far claimed responsibility.
The incident comes amid growing security concerns in Bajaur and other parts of the province, where public representatives have increasingly come under threat. The attack has heightened fears of a renewed wave of targeted violence aimed at destabilising the political climate.
Authorities have pledged to bring those responsible to justice and have stepped up security measures around political figures and sensitive locations in the district.
