A police crackdown was launched after workers of the Balochistan National Party (BNP) staged a protest near Lakpass and Sona Khan police stations. Several party workers were arrested during the operation.
BNP chief Sardar Akhtar Mengal declared that the sit-in at Lakpass would continue and similar demonstrations would be held in other districts of Balochistan. He stated that wherever the authorities try to stop BNP workers, they will stage sit-ins at those very locations.
Meanwhile, the provincial government has hinted at the possibility of arresting Akhtar Mengal. The spokesperson for the Balochistan government warned that if Mengal marches towards Quetta, he will be taken into custody.
According to reports, Mengal was informed about his possible arrest at 6 a.m., but he refused to comply. The provincial administration has also issued strict instructions not to block national highways, citing public inconvenience.
Moreover, the government advised BNP to restrict its protest to Shahwani Stadium. It warned of stern legal action if demonstrators attempt to enter the Red Zone. The situation continues to grow tense, signaling a potential turning point in the province’s political landscape.
