The Afghanistan Freedom Front (AFF) has claimed responsibility for a Saturday night attack targeting a vehicle carrying Taliban fighters in Taloqan, the capital of Takhar province.
In a statement released Sunday, the AFF said the blast occurred around 8:30 p.m. local time in the city’s main square, killing two Taliban members. The group described the attack as part of its ongoing resistance against the Taliban regime.
Local sources confirmed hearing an explosion in the area around that time, lending some support to the AFF’s account, though independent verification of casualties has not yet been made.
The Taliban have not issued a statement regarding the incident or responded to the AFF’s claims.
The Afghanistan Freedom Front, largely composed of former Afghan security personnel, has carried out a number of small-scale attacks against Taliban targets since the group’s resurgence in 2021.
