In a tragic turn of events, a fierce confrontation between security forces and militants from the banned group Fitna al-Khawarij (TTP) in the Wali Noor Jani Khel area of Bannu has left two children martyred, while eight others, including a woman, have been injured.

According to sources, the security forces were transporting rations when militants launched a sudden attack. Heavy gunfire and automatic weapons were used during the exchange, while gunship helicopters also conducted aerial surveillance in the area.

The intensity of the firefight caused widespread panic, with several families fleeing their homes to seek safety at designated safe zones. Mosques in the region announced ceasefire calls, and local youth waved white flags, urging for peace. Despite these efforts, the skirmish continued for several hours, making it difficult for rescuers to transport the injured and deceased to medical facilities. Once the fighting subsided, the bodies and injured were taken to the District Headquarters Hospital in Bannu.

Later, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police Bannu Region, Sajad Khan, along with Deputy Commissioner of Bannu, Muhammad Faheem, visited the hospital to inquire about the condition of the wounded civilians. DIG Khan extended his condolences to the victims’ families and assured them of full support.

Speaking to the press, DIG Sajad Khan strongly condemned the attack, calling the militants a common enemy to both civilians and security forces. “These cowardly acts are causing harm to innocent people,” he said. “However, we will ensure that these terrorists are brought to justice. The complete eradication of terrorists from this land is our unwavering commitment, and we will utilise all available resources to achieve this goal.”
