A group of heavily armed khawarij launched a brazen attack on the New Sabzi Mandi police check post in Bannu late last night, prompting a swift and heroic response by police. Several attackers were neutralized in the ensuing gun battle, while others reportedly sustained injuries.
According to a statement from the spokesperson of the Regional Police Officer (RPO) Bannu Region, khawarij used heavy weapons in their assault, but were successfully repelled by the brave officers manning the checkpoint. Tragically, two police personnel were martyred while valiantly defending their post.
In the immediate aftermath of the assault, a coordinated counter-operation was launched under the leadership of DIG Bannu Sajad Khan and DPO Saleem Abbas Kalachi. Personnel from both the local police and the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) participated in the operation, which resulted in the elimination and injury of several khawarij.
The police spokesperson confirmed that the timely and decisive response prevented what could have been a major loss of life and property. A search operation is currently underway in the surrounding areas to apprehend or eliminate any remaining khawarij involved in the attack.
Authorities have vowed to continue their operations until the region is completely cleared of khawarij threats. The incident underscores the continued vigilance and sacrifice of Pakistan’s security forces in their fight against terrorism.
