A father in Bannu has publicly announced his disassociation from his son, Shakirullah, after the young man reportedly joined a terrorist organization. Speaking at a gathering in a local mosque, the father declared that despite his best efforts to guide his son back to the right path, Shakirullah had remained committed to militant activities.
Addressing the congregation, the father said that since Shakirullah joined the terrorist group about a month ago, all attempts to bring him back to the family and mainstream society had been unsuccessful. In a solemn gesture, he swore on the Quran that his family has no connection, affiliation, or involvement with Shakirullah or his actions.
He further stated that the family would not even seek custody of his body if he were killed in the course of his involvement with militant activities. The declaration underscores the family’s strong condemnation of terrorism and their commitment to distancing themselves from violent extremist elements.
This public statement highlights the serious social and familial consequences of radicalization and underscores the ongoing challenges faced by communities in countering extremist influence. Experts note that such declarations serve as both a moral stance and a cautionary message to others who may be vulnerable to recruitment by terrorist groups.
The father’s oath on the Quran symbolizes both a personal and community-level rejection of militancy and reaffirms the importance of familial and societal responsibility in combating terrorism.
