Pakistan’s security forces foiled a major terrorist assault on a joint Security Forces and Law Enforcement Agencies check post in Bajaur district, killing twelve militants, though eleven personnel embraced Shahadat after an explosive-laden vehicle rammed into the facility’s perimeter wall, according to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).
The attack was attempted on February 16, when militants described by the military as Khwarij belonging to “Indian proxy, Fitna al Khwarij” sought to breach the joint check post. The assailants attempted to overpower security arrangements but were met with a swift and decisive response from troops stationed at the post.
According to ISPR, security forces engaged the fleeing attackers with precision and eliminated twelve militants during the exchange. In what officials termed a desperate act, the attackers rammed an explosives-packed vehicle into the perimeter wall, triggering a powerful blast.
The explosion caused significant structural damage, leading to the collapse of infrastructure at the check post. As a result, eleven security personnel were martyred in the line of duty.
The blast also severely affected nearby civilian residential buildings. One young girl lost her life, while seven other civilians, including women and children, sustained injuries.
Sanitisation operations are currently under way in the area to ensure no other militants remain at large. The military reaffirmed that the ongoing counterterrorism campaign under the vision of “Azm-e-Istehkam,” approved by the Federal Apex Committee on the National Action Plan, will continue with full intensity.
The armed forces and law enforcement agencies reiterated their resolve to eliminate what they termed foreign-sponsored terrorism from the country, stating that the sacrifices of security personnel and innocent civilians strengthen the nation’s determination to safeguard its sovereignty and peace at all costs.
