Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has witnessed a sharp increase in violent crimes, including homicides, attempted murders, and kidnappings, raising serious concerns over law and order in the province. Data released by Peshawar Police for the periods of 2024 and 2025 reveal a disturbing surge in serious criminal activity, reflecting the consequences of persistent governance gaps in the region.
According to official records, more than 3,200 people have lost their lives to violent crimes in the province so far this year. In 2024, from January to October, 2,604 homicide cases were reported, which have now increased to 3,200 in 2025. Attempted murder cases also remain alarmingly high, with 2,863 incidents reported in 2024 alone.
Kidnapping incidents have similarly risen, with 934 cases in 2024 and 993 reported so far in 2025. The consistent increase in these violent crimes underscores the deteriorating law-and-order situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, widely attributed to weak governance and inadequate enforcement measures.
While violent crimes are escalating, reports indicate a decrease in property-related offences. Theft, vehicle theft, and robbery cases have shown a slight decline. In the first ten months of 2024, 1,321 thefts and 1,073 vehicle thefts were reported, compared to 1,173 thefts and 958 vehicle thefts in 2025. Robbery incidents have also marginally decreased, from 586 cases in 2024 to 573 this year.
The Chief Police Officer of Peshawar has confirmed that measures are being implemented to address the rising trends of homicide, attempted murder, and kidnapping, with the aim of enhancing public safety. Authorities have also urged citizens to promptly report any suspicious activity to help curb criminal operations and ensure effective prevention.
The increasing number of violent crimes highlights the urgent need for robust governance reforms and effective law enforcement in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to restore public confidence and secure the safety of residents across the province.
