After North Waziristan and Kurram, People of Kohat Vow to Stand Shoulder-to-Shoulder with Pakistan Army Against Terrorism

KOHAT – Following similar declarations in North Waziristan and District Kurram, the people of District Kohat have also pledged full support to Pakistan’s armed forces in the fight against terrorism, vowing to play the role of steadfast allies and to make every sacrifice for the motherland.

The announcement came during a high-level jirga held at Headquarters 9th Division, Kohat, under the leadership of GOC 9 Division Major General Zulfiqar Ali Bhatti. The meeting was attended by Commissioner Kohat Mohtasim Billah, RPO Abbas Majeed Marwat, Deputy Commissioner Kurram Ashfaq Khan, Assistant DC Amir Nawaz, and 18 representatives of the Watezai Welfare Committee.

During the jirga, the committee shared that a 37-member body had been formed to oversee regional development, social welfare, and security coordination. The committee reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining peace, securing key roads, and requested approval for arms licenses and the early return of IDPs (Internally Displaced Persons).

Tribal elders requested compensation for conflict-related damages, welcomed the demolition of multiple bunkers, and identified additional ones for removal. They also expressed gratitude for the restoration of Bagan Mosque and requested repairs for Talokanj Mosque.

Major General Zulfiqar Bhatti reiterated that sustainable peace in the region is a top priority, emphasizing that conflict benefits no one. He appreciated the Watezai committee’s proactive role and stressed the importance of further empowering local leadership. He noted that the remaining bunkers will be removed under the Khyber Agreement, and discussions regarding weapon licensing are underway with relevant authorities.

The GOC also encouraged local youth to participate in upcoming Army and Frontier Corps recruitment drives in Thall and Dogar, and welcomed the formation of liaison committees to strengthen civil-police cooperation.

The jirga concluded with a collective prayer for the peace, stability, and security of District Kurram, Pakistan, and the Pakistan Armed Forces.
