Aftab Sherpao Raises Alarm Over Worsening Security Situation in KP

Qaumi Watan Party (QWP) Chairman Aftab Ahmad Khan Sherpao has expressed deep concern over the deteriorating law and order situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, warning that the rising wave of terrorism poses a serious threat to public safety and regional stability.

Addressing a press conference in Peshawar, Sherpao said that the current level of violence in the province is unprecedented, particularly in the southern districts, which he described as “no-go areas.” He noted that residents in these areas are living in fear and are often unable to leave their homes due to the deteriorating security conditions.

He pointed out that the issue of Kurram remains unresolved even after six months, further reflecting the government’s inability to restore peace. “If the provincial government cannot ensure security and protect the rights of the people, it should step down,” he said.

Sherpao criticized the federal government’s lack of engagement, stating that neither the Prime Minister nor federal ministers have visited the province, which has contributed to a growing atmosphere of mistrust between the public and the Centre. “There is a clear disconnect. The people feel abandoned,” he remarked.

He also highlighted the situation at the Afghan border, calling it “regrettable” and urging the government to have engaged with Afghan authorities prior to initiating repatriation measures. “While terrorism and target killings remain pressing issues, diplomatic channels with Afghanistan must be kept open to prevent further instability,” he added.

Sherpao concluded by warning that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa cannot endure prolonged insecurity and stressed the urgent need for coordinated efforts at both the provincial and federal levels to restore peace.
