Afghanistan Ranks Among World’s Least Safe Countries in Global Peace Index Report

A leading global think tank, the Institute for Economics and Peace (IEP), has once again ranked Afghanistan among the world’s most unsafe countries.

According to the Institute for Economics and Peace’s annual Global Peace Index report, Afghanistan, currently under Taliban rule, has been placed 158th out of 163 countries. The report notes a further 0.28 percent deterioration in the country’s overall peace score compared to last year, highlighting a deepening security crisis.

The Global Peace Index report states that Afghanistan has become South Asia’s most insecure and fragile country, showing the worst performance across all core peace indicators. Persistent violence, the easy availability of weapons, weak governance, and chronic instability continue to pose severe threats to national security.

The IEP report further warns that armed terrorist groups operating in Afghanistan now pose a serious threat not only to the country itself but to the security and stability of the wider region as well.
