Afghanistan Calls for Dialogue with Pakistan Amid Rising Regional Tensions

Afghanistan’s Foreign Minister, Amir Khan Muttaqi, has emphasized that Kabul seeks to resolve its issues with Pakistan through dialogue and mutual understanding, describing peaceful engagement as the preferred path forward.

According to a statement released by Afghanistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Muttaqi made these remarks during a telephone conversation with the United Arab Emirates’ Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

The discussion covered a wide range of topics, including bilateral relations, ongoing issues between Afghanistan and the United States, the broader regional situation, and recent developments in ties between Afghanistan and Pakistan.

During the call, Muttaqi thanked the UAE for its successful mediation efforts in securing the release of an American detainee and expressed willingness to resolve remaining issues through diplomatic channels and bilateral cooperation.

Addressing regional tensions, the Afghan foreign minister criticized the United States and Israel, stating that their actions against Iran have endangered regional stability. He described the escalation as concerning and condemnable, while also praising the UAE’s patience and diplomatic approach.

On relations with Pakistan, Muttaqi reiterated that Afghanistan, as a neighboring country, is committed to resolving disputes through dialogue. He stressed that Afghan territory would not be allowed to be used against Pakistan and noted that serious measures have already been taken in this regard.

However, he also maintained that any military actions taken by Afghanistan were defensive in nature, asserting the country’s right to self-defense in the face of aggression.

For his part, Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed stated that rising tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan are not in the interest of either country, adding that the UAE will continue its efforts to help ease tensions and promote dialogue in the region.
