In a blatant violation of international humanitarian norms, the Afghan Taliban reportedly fired mortar shells at civilian areas in Landi Kotal, Pakistan. Security sources stated that this reckless act is a clear proof of their defeat, as indiscriminate targeting of civilians demonstrates the Taliban’s desperation in the face of effective Pakistani security operations along the border.
Local residents reported that the mortars struck both residential and populated areas, causing damage to homes and creating fear among the local population. One of the most serious incidents occurred late last night in Malik Nadir Khan Khel village, where a large missile-like projectile landed at the residence of a local resident named Zulfiqar, causing significant structural damage. Fortunately, the house had been vacated earlier, and no casualties were reported.
Security officials emphasized that Pakistani forces have decisively repelled these attacks, maintaining control of the area and ensuring the safety of civilians. They noted that the Afghan Taliban’s deliberate targeting of civilian areas is not just a violation of war norms but also a clear indicator of their operational failure against well-prepared Pakistani defenses.
Residents described the attacks as deeply alarming, noting that these actions are part of a pattern of reckless aggression by the Afghan Taliban, intended to intimidate border communities. Security sources highlighted that such indiscriminate targeting of civilians only exposes the weakness and desperation of the attackers, who are unable to achieve objectives through conventional combat.
Authorities and local leaders have called on the international community to condemn cross-border attacks on civilians and hold the Afghan Taliban accountable for their repeated violations of humanitarian law. Pakistani forces reaffirmed their commitment to protecting border populations, maintaining security, and responding decisively to any hostile action, while preventing further escalation of conflict.
