Afghanistan’s acting Taliban authorities signaled openness to negotiations with Pakistan less than 24 hours after tensions sharply escalated along the border.
Taliban spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid said during a press conference that Afghanistan has consistently favored dialogue with Pakistan and continues to believe that ongoing tensions should be resolved through negotiations.
He stated that Kabul considers talks the appropriate path to address the current confrontation and prevent further escalation.
In parallel diplomatic outreach, Afghanistan’s acting foreign minister Amir Khan Muttaqi held a telephone conversation with Qatar’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Mohammed bin Abdulaziz Al Khulaifi.
According to the Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the discussion focused on ways to reduce tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan and to promote regional peace and stability.
Qatar has previously played a mediating role in Afghan-related diplomatic engagements, including facilitating dialogue channels between regional stakeholders.
The call comes amid heightened cross-border hostilities and intensified military responses in frontier regions.
Officials in Pakistan have maintained that security concerns linked to cross-border militant activity must be addressed, while Kabul’s latest statements indicate an effort to contain escalation through diplomatic channels.
