Afghan Man Held in Paris for Financing, Promoting ISIS-K Propaganda

A 20-year-old Afghan man has been arrested in Paris for allegedly financing and promoting ISIS-K propaganda through social media platforms, French prosecutors confirmed. France’s National Anti-Terrorism Prosecutor’s Office said the suspect was detained in a Lyon administrative centre after months of surveillance by intelligence services. Investigators allege the man used TikTok and other platforms to spread jihadist content, recruit followers, and communicate with ISIS operatives in Afghanistan.

According to prosecutors, the suspect also translated and circulated extremist material online while transferring funds believed to be tied to the group’s financial network. The Directorate-General for Internal Security (DGSI) reportedly monitored his online activities for several months before collecting sufficient evidence to detain him.

He remains in custody on charges of participating in terrorist activities and financing a banned organization, pending further judicial investigation. The case has drawn attention to France’s growing concern over radicalization risks within migrant communities, as authorities intensify counter-terrorism efforts against ISIS-K’s expanding digital footprint across Europe.
