In a chilling revelation, Balochistan police have uncovered that an Afghanistan-based criminal group was behind the abduction and murder of 11-year-old Mussawir Khan Kakar, a case that had sparked province-wide outrage and weeks-long protests.

Addressing a joint press conference in Quetta, DIG Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) Aitzaz Goraya and Balochistan government spokesperson Shahid Rind announced a major breakthrough in the case. According to DIG Goraya, the investigation revealed that the network responsible for the heinous crime operated from across the Afghan border and had ties inside Pakistan, especially in Quetta’s Saryab Road area.

One of the key suspects, Hasham, has been arrested, and the vehicle used in the abduction recovered. Two other suspects, Yousaf and Nasir, were killed in a police operation, while raids are ongoing to apprehend two more fugitives, Rehan and Bukhari.

The DIG further said that the house where the child was kept has been traced, and its owner has been taken into custody. Another suspect, Tayyab Shah, reportedly a resident of Bajaur, remains at large, with search operations underway.

Mussawir Khan Kakar was kidnapped on November 15, 2024, from the Multani Mohalla area of Quetta. His body was recovered a month later from Spilinji in Mastung, triggering public fury. A province-wide strike, prolonged protests, and even a constitutional intervention by the Supreme Court followed, reflecting the gravity of the incident.

Justice Jamal Khan Mandokhel had remarked during a Supreme Court hearing: “An entire province has shut down over one child’s abduction, yet the government remains unmoved.”

In the same press briefing, Shahid Rind also raised serious concerns about a string of violent incidents in Zhob, Mastung, and Kalat, including a targeted attack where passengers were pulled from buses and shot. The spokesman confirmed that six of the seven young men abducted in Shaban were later executed by a banned militant group. Efforts are still underway to recover an Assistant Commissioner abducted from Turbat.

The Chief Minister of Balochistan has convened an emergency security meeting, directing law enforcement agencies to maintain strict oversight and restore public confidence.
