PM Shehbaz, UN Chief Hold Urgent Call Amid Rising South Asia Tensions

Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif and United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres held a crucial telephone conversation today, marking their second call within a week, as tensions escalate in South Asia.

The leaders discussed the deteriorating security situation in the region. Prime Minister Shehbaz appreciated the UN Secretary-General’s active engagement and diplomatic efforts aimed at reducing tensions and preventing any escalation into conflict. He welcomed the call for de-escalation and reiterated Pakistan’s offer for an independent, transparent, and credible investigation into the ongoing developments.

Expressing deep concern, the Prime Minister noted that India has yet to provide any credible evidence to support its allegations, while continuing to make inflammatory statements and escalate the situation through provocative rhetoric.

PM Shehbaz reaffirmed Pakistan’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding its sovereignty and territorial integrity. He also voiced serious concern over what he described as India’s attempts to damage Pakistan’s economic interests and politicize international financial institutions.

The Secretary-General shared his continued efforts for regional peace and stability and assured the Prime Minister that the UN is in contact with all relevant parties to address the situation diplomatically.
