US Lawmakers Warn Against War Between Nuclear-Armed India and Pakistan

India, Pakistan, nuclear-armed

Retired Lieutenant Colonel and U.S. Congressman Keith Self has cautioned that a war between nuclear-armed neighbours India and Pakistan is beyond imagination and must be avoided at all costs.

Speaking at a recent briefing, Congressman Self emphasized the uncontrollable nature of warfare once it begins, especially between two nuclear states. “The idea of a conflict between India and Pakistan — both armed with nuclear weapons — is unthinkable. Once a war starts, it cannot be easily contained,” he stated.

Echoing similar concerns, Democratic Congressman and retired Lieutenant General Jack Bergman highlighted the importance of proactive diplomacy. He urged the United States to work alongside like-minded and independent nations to prevent failures and promote global stability.

These remarks come amid rising global concerns over regional tensions in South Asia.
