India Plots Military Action on Pahalgam Pretext, Pakistan Vows Measured but Resolute Response: Atta Tarar

Federal Minister for Information Attaullah Tarar on Tuesday said that India is planning to initiate action against Pakistan on the pretext of the Pahalgam incident, warning that any military adventurism will be met with a decisive and fitting response.

Addressing the prevailing situation between Pakistan and India, the federal minister revealed that intelligence reports indicate India is likely to undertake aggressive action within the next 24 to 36 hours. “India has chosen the path of confrontation, but Pakistan will respond to any misadventure,” he said, adding that Pakistan firmly rejects India’s self-assumed role as judge, jury, and executioner in the region.

Tarar stated that Pakistan has itself suffered from terrorism for over two decades and unequivocally condemns terrorism in all its forms. Following the Pahalgam attack, Pakistan responsibly offered an open and impartial investigation to uncover the truth and determine the motivations behind the incident.

He regretted that instead of cooperating, India opted for irrationality and escalation, a path that could have devastating consequences for the region and the world. “India’s refusal to accept neutral investigations is itself a strong indication of its real intentions,” he said. He criticized New Delhi for deliberately inflaming public sentiment to achieve political gains, calling such moves “regrettable and dangerous.”

The minister reiterated that Pakistan would deliver a definite and decisive response to any form of Indian military action. He called on the international community to recognize that responsibility for any destructive consequences of war would lie solely with India. “The people of Pakistan will defend their sovereignty and territorial integrity at all costs,” he affirmed.

It may be noted that following the Pahalgam attack on local tourists, India launched a campaign of baseless accusations and provocations against Pakistan. In a series of aggressive moves, New Delhi suspended the Indus Waters Treaty and instructed Pakistani diplomatic staff to leave India by April 30, 2025. The Modi government also revoked Pakistani visa privileges and took other hostile actions.

In response, Pakistan’s National Security Committee adopted a robust diplomatic strategy and limited the Indian diplomatic staff in Pakistan to 30 individuals. The committee also made it clear that water is Pakistan’s lifeline, and any attempt to cut it off would be considered an act of war.
