The Foreign Office has cautioned that India’s unilateral actions pose a serious threat to regional peace and stability, warning that any attempt by New Delhi to block water flow would be treated as an act of war and met with a strong response.
Addressing the weekly media briefing, Foreign Office Spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch stated that Pakistan’s National Security Committee met recently and made several key decisions in light of escalating tensions. She said Pakistan had conveyed clear responses to India during the meeting.
Terming India’s suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty a reckless and irresponsible act, the spokesperson said New Delhi had unilaterally violated a binding international agreement. “India’s unilateralism endangers regional peace and stability and reaffirms the relevance of the two-nation theory,” she added.
She emphasized that if India attempts to block water flow, Pakistan will respond forcefully, viewing such actions as tantamount to a declaration of war. She affirmed that the country’s armed forces are fully prepared to safeguard national security and defence.
The spokesperson also announced the closure of all movement across the Wagah border, the suspension of Pakistani airspace for Indian flights, and the cancellation of all visas issued to Indian nationals under the SAARC scheme. However, she clarified that Sikh pilgrims would remain exempt from the visa suspension.
Highlighting diplomatic engagements, the spokesperson said Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had held fruitful discussions with Turkish leadership during his recent visit to Türkiye. Additionally, the Deputy Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates visited Pakistan, where both sides agreed to enhance bilateral cooperation across multiple sectors.
She further mentioned that Rwanda’s Foreign Minister paid an important visit to Pakistan, resulting in the signing of several MoUs aimed at strengthening collaboration between the two countries.
Meanwhile, Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar undertook a significant visit to Afghanistan and held telephonic conversations with his Uzbek counterpart and the Iranian Foreign Minister to discuss bilateral relations and cooperation.
