Security forces launched a joint intelligence-based operation in the hilly area of Makarwal, near the border of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab’s Karak District, where reports had emerged of 20 to 30 Khariji terrorists present in the region.
The operation, led by District Police Officer (DPO) Mianwali Akhtar Farooq and conducted jointly by the police, Counter Terrorism Department (CTD), and Rangers, resulted in a fierce exchange of fire with the terrorists. Initial reports suggest that several Khariji terrorists were killed during the encounter.
Regional Police Officer (RPO) Sargodha, Muhammad Shehzad Asif Khan, personally supervised the operation on-site and monitored the entire security exercise.
All personnel of the police, CTD, and Rangers — including DPO Akhtar Farooq remained unharmed during the operation.
RPO Sargodha commended the bravery and swift action of all officers involved and lauded their dedication in confronting terrorist threats.
“Our brave officers of Punjab Police will continue to stand as an unbreakable wall against terrorism and will foil every nefarious design of these elements,” said RPO Muhammad Shehzad Asif Khan.
He added, “Punjab Police remains fully alert and committed to eradicating Khariji terrorists and their malicious agendas.”
