Intelligence-Based Operations to Continue Until Elimination of Terrorists, Says CM Gandapur

Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Ali Amin Gandapur, said on Monday that intelligence-based operations would continue until the complete elimination of terrorists from the province, adding that no military operation is currently underway in any part of KP.

He made these remarks during a meeting with a delegation of the Bannu Qaumi Jirga. The delegation included Provincial Minister Pakhtoon Yar Khan, MNA Maulana Naseem Shah, MPA Adnan Wazir, and notable political, social, and religious figures from the region. Chief Secretary KP, Additional Chief Secretary (Home), as well as the Commissioner, RPO, Deputy Commissioner, and DPO of the concerned district, were also present at the meeting.

The delegation briefed the chief minister on the demands raised during the recently held Qaumi Jirga in Bannu, and conveyed concerns over road blockades that have disrupted daily life in the area.

CM Gandapur expressed principled agreement with the jirga’s demands and announced that a comprehensive plan would be devised to address the issues. A committee will be formed to look into the reinstatement of dismissed police personnel, matters related to the Fourth Schedule, and detentions under 3 MPO.

The jirga members assured the government of their full support in restoring peace in the region. The chief minister informed the delegation that 12 out of 16 points approved by the Provincial Apex Committee had already been implemented, and efforts were underway to fulfill the remaining four.

He added that a phased mechanism would be developed to reopen roads in Bannu city for public movement. “Restoring public trust in the system is essential to counter terrorism,” he said. “We are taking steps to win back the confidence of the people and urge them to cooperate with the government in ridding the region of terrorists.”

CM Gandapur emphasized that the police, particularly the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD), were being strengthened and given a lead role in counter-terrorism efforts
