The Afghanistan United Front has claimed that it carried out at least 43 operations against the Taliban across 14 Afghan provinces during August, alleging that 74 Taliban fighters were killed and another 35 wounded.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, September 1, the group said its attacks targeted Taliban personnel whom it accused of arresting, torturing and harassing Afghan citizens.

The United Front said the operations were conducted from August 1 through the end of the month, following its announcement on August 1 that it had launched a military campaign against the Taliban.

Hilal Kakar, the group’s spokesman, said in a video statement that the most significant operation during the month was a direct assault on a Taliban army corps in Kandahar. He identified an attack on a military base in Nawzad district of Helmand as the largest operation carried out by the group.

According to Kakar, the attacks inflicted substantial casualties on Taliban forces, while United Front fighters also seized ammunition during some of the operations.

He said the group intended to continue its campaign until Afghans were freed from Taliban rule and a prosperous and free Afghanistan could be established.

The United Front also said it was prepared to make further sacrifices until the Taliban administration was overthrown and a system of governance reflecting the will of the Afghan people was restored.

Over the past month, the group has released videos purporting to show attacks on Taliban positions and the bodies of Taliban fighters. It has claimed operations in Kandahar, Helmand, Badghis, Ghor, Faryab and several other provinces.

The claims of casualties and battlefield successes could not be independently verified.

The Afghanistan United Front, led by former Afghan army commander Sami Sadat, announced on August 1 that it had begun military operations against the Taliban and other terrorist groups operating in Afghanistan.
