KP & Balochistan: Where Pakistan Is Taking the Fight to Terrorists

Pakistan’s security forces remain engaged on multiple fronts as Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan continue to bear the brunt of terrorist violence, according to the Global Terrorism Index 2026.
The report identifies these provinces as the primary battlegrounds, accounting for the majority of attacks and casualties, largely due to their proximity to cross-border militant networks and difficult terrain.
It notes that Pakistan has witnessed a rise in terrorism-related incidents for the sixth consecutive year, underscoring the scale of the challenge faced by security forces in safeguarding the country.
Groups such as the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan remain the most active threat, operating at a scale far greater than outfits like the Balochistan Liberation Army, which continues to target infrastructure and civilians in Balochistan.
Despite these challenges, ongoing counterterrorism operations have significantly constrained militant movements, pushing them into increasingly limited and reactive modes of attack.
The report highlights that Pakistan’s fight against terrorism remains centered in these regions, where security forces continue to confront externally supported militant threats.
