A powerful explosion occurred earlier today near the main gate of the Miryan Police Station in Bannu district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province. The blast, in which explosives had been clandestinely placed within a parked motorbike near the station’s entrance, resulted in civilian casualties.
According to official sources, the initial detonation was substantial, but due to the presence of protective sandbag barriers installed around the police station’s perimeter, all police personnel on duty remained unharmed and there were no reported injuries among law enforcement staff. Security forces secured the entire area immediately following the incident and launched an urgent investigation.
The improvised explosive device was planted on a motorcycle and detonated near the main gate of the Miryan Police Station. The design and placement of the blast suggest a deliberate attempt to target the police facility. However, the safety measures in place successfully prevented any loss of life among police officers.
Despite the security precautions, the explosion tragically impacted civilians in the vicinity of the police station. Local sources reported that two people have been killed, while approximately 16 others sustained injuries, many of whom are reported to be non‑combatants. Emergency services and medical teams quickly responded, transporting the injured to nearby medical facilities for urgent treatment. The identities of the deceased and injured are being confirmed, and authorities have extended condolences to the families affected by this tragic incident.
District authorities and the regional police command have condemned the attack in the strongest terms and reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining security and public order across Bannu. A comprehensive investigation has been launched to determine the responsible parties behind this act of violence and to ensure that all those involved are brought to justice under the full extent of the law.
The District Police Office has appealed to the local community to remain calm and vigilant, and to assist in the ongoing investigation by sharing any relevant information or observations that may help in identifying the perpetrators.
