Pakistan’s civil and military leadership jointly reaffirmed an uncompromising resolve to defeat terrorism and dismantle militant networks during a high-level security review meeting held at Corps Headquarters Peshawar to assess the overall law and order situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The meeting was attended by the Federal Interior Minister, Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, National Security Adviser, Corps Commander Peshawar, along with senior civil and military officials.
Participants paid tribute to civilians and security personnel martyred in recent terrorist incidents, honoring their sacrifices in the ongoing fight against militancy.
In a key confidence-building decision reflecting improving security conditions, the forum approved the holding of Pakistan Super League (PSL) matches in Peshawar during the current year, signaling the state’s determination to restore normalcy and public activity despite persistent threats from terrorist groups.
Governance, Security Model Expansion
The meeting decided that the provincial government’s administrative and policing model would be immediately enforced in Malakand Division under the supervision of provincial police and relevant institutions as a model framework.
Following its implementation, the model will be expanded in phases to terrorism-affected districts, particularly Khyber, Orakzai, and Kurram.
To ensure oversight of development initiatives and review of any security operations in these districts, a special sub-committee headed by the Chief Minister will be established. The committee will hold monthly review meetings.
The body will include elected public representatives, Corps Commander Peshawar, Chief Secretary, Inspector General of Police, provincial authorities, and representatives of federal institutions.
Development, Livelihoods & Rehabilitation
The sub-committee will monitor governance and development projects while creating alternative livelihood opportunities to ensure sustainable income for local populations.
It will also put in place effective arrangements to address the concerns of temporarily displaced persons and facilitate their rehabilitation.
Unified Counter-Terror Policy
The forum emphasized complete coordination and a unified policy posture between the federal government and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to combat terrorism through effective institutional linkages.
Special focus was placed on preventing extremist tendencies among youth through employment generation and constructive engagement.
Crackdown on Terror Enablers
Participants resolved to continue strict action against:
Illegal SIM cards
Explosives networks
Extortion rackets
The meeting also stressed phased profiling of non-custom paid vehicles, often exploited in militant logistics and mobility.
State Resolve Against Militancy
The deliberations underscored Pakistan’s continued demonstration of vigor and operational readiness against terrorist outfits, including TTP and BLA, while reinforcing that violence, intimidation, and militant coercion would not be allowed to undermine governance, development, or public life in the province.
