Police conducted a decisive intelligence-based search-and-strike operation in Lakki Marwat district of the Bannu region, eliminating a terrorist involved in planting an improvised explosive device (IED) during an earlier attack on a bus heading towards the Lucky Cement factory.
According to police sources, the operation was launched hours after the IED blast, based on actionable intelligence about the movement of suspects in nearby areas. Law enforcement personnel sealed off the locality and advanced towards suspected hideouts, leading to an exchange of fire.
During the encounter, the terrorist responsible for installing the IED was neutralized. Officials said the operation was carried out swiftly to prevent further attacks and to dismantle any remaining terrorist presence in the area.
The police operation was expanded into surrounding villages, with checkpoints established and door-to-door searches conducted as a precautionary measure. Security remained on high alert throughout the region.
Authorities reaffirmed their resolve to protect public lives and critical infrastructure, stating that indiscriminate action against terrorists would continue. Investigations are ongoing to determine whether the neutralized militant was linked to a wider network involved in attacks on industrial and civilian targets.
