Security forces intensified operations against Fitna al-Khawarij in Lakki Marwat, where a joint action by police, the Counter Terrorism Department, and local peace committees resulted in the killing of six terrorists, with several others reported injured, official sources said.
The operation is centred in the Takhti Khel area, where militants were reported to be hiding in trenches and fortified positions. Police and local residents have jointly cordoned off the area, tightening the noose around the remaining elements. Sources said six members of the Takhti Khel tribe were also injured during the clashes, and were identified as Niaz Muhammad, Shakirullah, Waqas, Rehmatullah, and Raqeebullah.
According to officials, the militants are armed with modern weapons, including sniper rifles, and intermittent exchanges of fire were continuing at the time of filing this report. There were also reports that Fitna al Khawarij elements repeatedly targeted homes using drone-copters, causing injuries to several civilians and adding to fear among residents.
Security has been further tightened on the special directives of DIG Bannu Region Sajjad Khan. The ongoing operation is being personally supervised by DIG Sajjad Khan and DPO Lakki Marwat, with a heavy deployment of police, CTD personnel, and peace committees in the area.
Authorities said the locality has been fully cordoned off and search and clearance operations are underway, while additional forces have been kept on high alert to deal with any untoward situation.
DIG Bannu Region Sajjad Khan reiterated that the protection of life and property of citizens remains the top priority of the police, adding that indiscriminate and strict action will continue against Fitna al-Khawarij and other elements threatening peace in the district.
The latest operation follows a series of recent security incidents in Lakki Marwat, where drone attacks and armed clashes have heightened tensions. Officials say sustained vigilance, coordinated operations, and community cooperation remain critical to restoring stability in the terror-hit district.
