The banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) has agreed to withdraw from the Qambar Khel area of Tirah Valley following mediation by local elders, amid growing concern over civilian suffering caused by clashes between militants and security forces.
According to credible local sources, a delegation of tribal elders met TTP commanders on Sunday and reminded them of the written agreement reached on August 4, under which the militants had pledged not to use private homes for attacks on security forces or for any subversive activities.
The elders told the TTP representatives that continued fighting between the two sides had severely affected residents, as some armed groups were still occupying private houses and forcing families to evacuate. They said several people had been killed or injured during recent exchanges of fire, and private property had also suffered extensive damage, despite the TTP’s earlier assurance on August 5 that it would not use civilians as human shields.
Local sources added that the elders pressed the TTP leadership to honour its commitments and immediately vacate populated areas to prevent further loss of life and displacement. The militants reportedly agreed verbally to comply and withdraw from the area in the coming days.
The security situation in Tirah Valley has remained tense in recent weeks, with intermittent clashes between militant groups and security forces. Residents have repeatedly urged both sides to respect civilian safety and prevent the recurrence of large-scale displacement that has marked past conflicts in the region.
