Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, NI (M), HJ, Chief of Army Staff (COAS), visited Peshawar today, meeting a jirga of tribal elders and reviewing the prevailing security situation, according to an ISPR statement. Upon arrival, the COAS was received by the Commander of Peshawar Corps.
During his visit, the COAS was briefed at Headquarters 11 Corps on operational preparedness, ongoing counter-terrorism efforts, and initiatives to maintain peace and stability along the Pak-Afghan border.
Addressing the tribal elders, Munir appreciated their “steadfast and unconditional support” to the security forces during the recent standoff with the Afghan Taliban and paid tribute to the resilience and sacrifices of the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in the fight against terrorism. The tribal elders reiterated their full support for the armed forces’ efforts against terrorism and cross-border threats.
The COAS emphasized that Pakistan seeks peaceful relations with all neighbours, including Afghanistan, but will not tolerate cross-border terrorism against Pakistan. He highlighted that despite repeated diplomatic and economic efforts, the Afghan Taliban regime has continued to provide support to groups identified as Indian-sponsored terror proxies, including Fitna Al Khwarij and Fitna Al Hindustan.
Munir assured the tribal elders that Pakistan, particularly Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, will be cleared of terrorists and their abettors. The tribal representatives welcomed the COAS’s statements and expressed their commitment to peace, stressing that extremist ideologies such as FAK’s are not accepted among the tribes of KP.
