Afghan Regime–Linked Networks Threaten Attacks on Islamabad Through Terror Proxies

Pakistan has expressed grave concern over alarming social media activity linked to individuals associated with the Afghan Taliban regime, in which direct and open threats were issued to target Islamabad through non-state actors and extremist groups, including Fitna al-Khawarij.

Images circulating today on Afghan-linked social media platforms showed Afghan nationals residing in Pakistan displaying threatening posters in various parts of the capital, particularly near Faisal Mosque. These messages, openly calling for attacks on Islamabad, represent a dangerous provocation and a blatant threat to Pakistan’s sovereignty and national stability.

Pakistan considers this act not only irresponsible but deeply regrettable, as it exposes how certain Afghan individuals who benefited from Pakistan’s generosity and protection for decades  have now turned toward hostility and incitement against their host nation.

Pakistan strongly warns that any attempt by Afghanistan to employ non-state actors as instruments of aggression, particularly under the influence of foreign powers, would be a reckless and destabilizing policy. Such actions threaten not only bilateral relations but also regional peace and border security.

Providing safe havens or support to extremist groups is akin to fueling a fire that could engulf the entire region. Pakistan has consistently urged the Afghan authorities to ensure that their territory is not used for cross-border terrorism, emphasizing that the instability of one nation cannot become the burden of another.

If such non-state elements continue to be weaponized, mutual trust will deteriorate, trade and regional cooperation will suffer, and the risk of open confrontation will increase. Pakistan, as a nuclear-armed nation with a disciplined and capable military, reiterates that any proxy war waged against it will fail decisively and could have severe repercussions for its instigators.

Islamabad calls upon the Afghan leadership to act with responsibility and sincerity in pursuing shared security objectives and to prevent hostile forces from exploiting Afghan soil to threaten peace in South Asia.

The Government of Pakistan reaffirms that its policy to repatriate illegal Afghan residents is timely, lawful, and aligned with national security priorities. Intelligence reports have repeatedly established links between terrorist incidents in Pakistan and networks operating from Afghan territory or involving Afghan nationals. Allowing such networks to persist poses an intolerable threat to Pakistan’s sovereignty and internal stability. Pakistan is therefore determined to complete the repatriation process decisively, ensuring that no external conspiracy or internal sabotage undermines the country’s peace and security.

Pakistan remains committed to peace, dialogue, and responsible regional engagement. However, the state will not compromise on its territorial integrity or the safety of its citizens. Pakistan also calls on the international community to take notice of these threats and to ensure that Afghan territory is not used to promote or plan acts of terrorism. Pakistan’s security institutions remain vigilant and fully empowered to take all necessary measures to safeguard national sovereignty, public safety, and regional stability.
