In a major counter-terror success, five Khawarij were gunned down during a brazen attack on the Police Training Centre in Dera Ismail Khan late Friday.
According to police officials, 7 to 8 militants affiliated with the banned Fitna al-Khawarij outfit launched a coordinated assault on the training facility, opening fire from all four sides using heavy weapons.
During the clash, one suicide bomber detonated himself near the centre, but in swift retaliation, security personnel shot and killed four attackers on the spot.
The intense exchange of fire continued after the blast, prompting authorities to dispatch additional police reinforcements from Ijaz Shaheed Police Lines to secure the area.
District Police Officer Sajjad Ahmad Sabzdar is personally overseeing the operation, with the entire vicinity under a tight security cordon. Police officials vowed that no attacker would escape and the area would be cleared of any remaining threats.
