In a major development with far-reaching implications for regional security, the mastermind of Baloch Liberation Army’s (BLA) some of the most heinous attacks, commander Rahman Gul alias Ustad Mureed, was killed during an armed clash in the Sangin district of Helmand on September 15, 2025.
According to sources, Ustad Mureed was the deputy commander of the BLA’s Majid Brigade and is widely believed to have masterminded the deadly attack on the Jaffar Express. He was also closely associated with Indian intelligence agency RAW, and reportedly oversaw multiple attacks on Chinese engineers and infrastructure projects in Pakistan.
Initial reports indicate that the clash stemmed from internal tensions over the distribution of funds and weapons. Mureed was targeted directly, and attempts by local facilitators linked to RAW to rescue him failed.
Two days prior to the incident, intelligence agencies intercepted a drone signal that revealed his location. This precise intelligence may have been passed on to rival Afghan factions, who then executed the strike.
Ustad Mureed’s death is being viewed as a significant blow to BLA’s operational capabilities, especially given his strategic role and transnational support network.
