A tragic incident on Friday unfolded in the Gyab area of Mand, near the Pakistan-Iran border, when security forces came under a sudden ambush. According to initial reports, personnel from the Frontier Corps (FC) and Levies were patrolling the area on motorcycles when militants belonging to the banned Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) opened indiscriminate fire.
The fierce attack resulted in the martyrdom of two brave soldiers, identified as Sepoy Jameel and Sepoy Aziz. Security sources said the assailants managed to flee into nearby mountains after the assault.
Following the incident, additional contingents of FC and Levies reached the site and launched a search operation to track down the perpetrators. The bodies of the martyred soldiers were shifted to a nearby medical facility before being sent to their hometowns for funeral prayers with full military honours.
Local officials strongly condemned the cowardly attack, vowing that such acts of terrorism would not deter security forces from maintaining peace and stability in the region. An investigation is underway.
Earlier, two members of the banned Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) were killed when unidentified gunmen opened fire in the Dasht Kalan Amiri Nechar area of Kalat district. The deceased were identified as Siraj Ahmed and Muhammad Ishaq, both known operatives of the proscribed group. According to officials, the two were targeted while present in the area, though the motive and identities of the attackers remain unclear.
Security forces reached the site soon after the incident, cordoned off the locality, and shifted the bodies to a nearby health facility for medico-legal formalities. Forensic teams also collected evidence from the crime scene.
Law enforcement agencies have launched a search operation to track down the assailants. Investigators are examining whether the killings were linked to rivalries among militant factions or part of a broader campaign of targeted action against insurgent operatives.
