The Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) has reported major gains in the fight against militancy in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, confirming that 293 terrorists were eliminated and 878 arrested during the first eight months of the year. Despite these operations, the province witnessed 766 incidents of terrorism that claimed the lives of 417 police, civilian and law enforcement personnel, while 925 others sustained injuries.
The report paints a grim picture of the security situation across 30 districts, where a total of 3,454 terrorists were nominated in connection with these attacks. Of them, 293 were killed and 878 arrested, while 3,023 remain wanted.
The breakdown shows that 92 police officials were martyred and 162 injured; 159 civilians lost their lives and 410 sustained injuries; while 166 personnel of other law enforcement agencies embraced martyrdom and 353 were injured during the period.
Bannu emerged as the most affected district, recording 141 attacks in which 836 terrorists were nominated. The clashes resulted in the martyrdom of 20 policemen, 20 civilians, and 15 law enforcement personnel. Ninety-two terrorists were arrested and 28 killed in operations.
North Waziristan followed with 124 attacks, where 578 terrorists were nominated. Nine terrorists were arrested and nine killed, while four policemen were martyred.
In Lakki Marwat, 73 attacks claimed the lives of 11 policemen, 10 civilians, and five law enforcement personnel. Out of 459 nominated terrorists, 52 were arrested and 27 eliminated.
Dera Ismail Khan witnessed 66 incidents of terrorism, nominating 357 terrorists. Security forces arrested 73 and killed 102 in operations. The district recorded six policemen, eight civilians, and 16 law enforcement personnel martyred.
In Khyber district, 49 attacks left three policemen and one law enforcement officer martyred, while 131 of 110 nominated terrorists were arrested and four killed.
Bajaur reported 42 incidents, with five policemen, five civilians, and 12 law enforcement personnel martyred. Eighteen terrorists were arrested in connection with these attacks.
In South Waziristan (Upper and Lower), 63 incidents led to the martyrdom of eight policemen, 28 civilians, and 16 law enforcement personnel. Twenty terrorists were eliminated, while only one was arrested.
Tank witnessed 31 attacks, resulting in the martyrdom of three policemen, eight civilians, and three law enforcement personnel. Nine terrorists were arrested, while 33 were killed.
Peshawar, the provincial capital, recorded 32 incidents, leaving eight policemen, eight civilians, and two law enforcement personnel martyred. A significant 184 terrorists were arrested, and nine killed.
In Orakzai, 22 incidents led to the martyrdom of two policemen, one civilian, and 13 law enforcement personnel.
Dir Lower reported 14 incidents, claiming the lives of one policeman and two civilians.
Meanwhile, Karak and Kurram districts collectively saw 34 attacks, leading to the martyrdom of eight policemen, eight civilians, and 19 law enforcement personnel.
The CTD report underscores that the persistent wave of militancy continues to exact a heavy toll on the province despite ongoing counter-terrorism operations.
