Pakistan and the European Union have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening cooperation in key areas including security, counterterrorism, and multilateral engagement during the 10th Pakistan-EU Political Dialogue held in Brussels. According to a press release issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, both sides engaged in comprehensive discussions on regional and global developments, placing particular emphasis on intensifying dialogue and collaboration on security-related matters.
The two sides reiterated their resolve to implement the Strategic Engagement Plan (SEP) signed in 2019, with a renewed focus on enhancing cooperation across all areas covered under the framework. “Pakistan and the EU underscored the importance of deeper collaboration on security issues, particularly in counterterrorism, counter-narcotics, and regional stability,” the statement said.
Both delegations recognized the critical importance of sustained, structured engagement on security and condemned terrorism in all its forms and manifestations. They emphasized the need to address complex global challenges through diplomacy and dialogue, grounded in international law and the principles of the United Nations Charter.
The two sides also held detailed discussions on the situation in Ukraine and Indian-occupied Jammu and Kashmir. They underscored the urgent need for peaceful resolution of disputes in accordance with international law and stressed the importance of upholding the sovereignty and territorial integrity of states.
Pakistan and the EU expressed shared concern over the deteriorating humanitarian situation in Gaza. They called for the restoration of a ceasefire and reaffirmed support for a just, lasting, and comprehensive peace in the Middle East through a two-state solution.
Both parties agreed to continue engagement under the GSP+ framework, recognizing its significance in strengthening economic ties and sustainable development. The European Union remains Pakistan’s second-largest trading partner, with the GSP+ status offering duty-free or minimum-duty access to EU markets for Pakistani exports. They also acknowledged the importance of meaningful cooperation on migration, noting that the third Dialogue on Migration and Mobility will be held at the end of 2025.
The two sides agreed to convene the 7th Pakistan-EU Strategic Dialogue in 2025 and expressed their intention to hold the next Political Dialogue in Islamabad. The Pakistani delegation was led by Foreign Secretary Amna Baloch, while the European Union side was headed by Deputy Secretary General of the European External Action Service, Olof Skoog.
